The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index extended its losing streak on Tuesday, June 16, with the benchmark index falling 0.23 percent, or 6.31 points, to close at 2,705.45.
The decline followed losses of 0.45 percent on Monday, 0.14 percent on Friday and 0.29 percent on Thursday. A modest 0.09 percent gain on Wednesday had briefly interrupted a four-session slide.
Trading activity also weakened. A total of 10.71 million shares changed hands through 48,116 transactions, generating a turnover of Rs 4.04 billion, down from Rs 4.41 billion in the previous session.
Broader market indicators remained under pressure. The Sensitive Index fell 0.31 percent, while the Float Index and Sensitive Float Index declined 0.28 percent and 0.36 percent, respectively.
Market breadth was decisively negative, with 177 stocks posting losses, 80 advancing and 15 remaining unchanged.
Among individual stocks, Sopan Pharmaceuticals Limited (SOPL) emerged as the top gainer, hitting the upper circuit limit. Appolo Hydropower Limited (APHL) followed closely with a gain of 14.98 percent.
On the losing side, Sayapatri Hydropower Limited (SPHL) recorded the steepest decline, dropping 4.90 percent.
In terms of turnover, Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company Ltd (AKJCL) led the market with Rs 319.94 million, followed by Siddhartha Bank Limited (SBL) and Reliance Spinning Mills Limited (RSML).
Of the 13 sectoral indices, only two closed in positive territory. The Trading Index rose 0.31 percent and the Mutual Fund Index edged up 0.05 percent. The Finance Index recorded the largest decline, falling 0.62 percent.
Total market capitalisation declined to Rs 4,622.80 billion from Rs 4,633.58 billion at the close of the previous trading session.
