The BP Highway reopened on Thursday morning after remaining blocked for three days due to floods in the Roshi River. Authorities restored traffic by constructing a temporary diversion, allowing vehicles to resume movement along the route.
The District Police Office confirmed that the highway had been closed since Monday when heavy rainfall triggered flooding in the Roshi River, damaging the diversion. Police have urged travelers to avoid the highway unless necessary, warning that continued rainfall could again disrupt traffic.
The temporary diversion spans nearly four kilometers in the Roshi area. Police said they halt traffic whenever rainfall damages the diversion to prevent accidents. During closures, vehicles are parked at Dhulikhel, Kavre Bhanjyang, Mangalatar, and Nepal Thok in Sindhuli until the road reopens.
Last year, floods and landslides washed away 18 kilometers of road in Chaukidanda, Roshi, and Nepal Thok areas of Sindhuli. Authorities then constructed diversions along the riverbed to keep traffic moving. Permanent road construction in the affected sections is currently underway. -- RSS
