Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle on Friday, May 8, outlined five key priorities of the government, saying the administration will focus on good governance, economic restructuring, connectivity, social investment, and strengthening Nepal’s soft power through tourism, culture and heritage.
Speaking as a chief guest at the 10th NewBiz Conclave & Business Excellence Awards 2026 in Kathmandu, Wagle said the government’s reform agenda is aimed at ending long-standing malpractices and improving governance.
Referring to public frustration over governance failures in the past, he thanked the younger generation for raising their voices against poor governance and said such practices would not be repeated.
On the economy, Wagle said the government plans to restructure the country’s economic foundations to support long-term and sustainable growth.
Highlighting connectivity as another major priority, he said Nepal aims to invest heavily in roads, digital infrastructure and aviation. He added that the government wants to attract greater private sector participation rather than relying solely on public spending.
Wagle also stressed the importance of social investment and promoting Nepal’s tourism, culture and heritage to strengthen the country’s international presence and soft power.
“These are the priorities we will act upon in the budget and during our tenure,” Wagle said, adding that the government would continue to strengthen and expand these goals in the coming days.
