Umesh Chauhan, who stepped down as Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur Daily last month, has been appointed Group Editor of Himalaya Television Network and Onlinekhabar.com as the two media outlets move towards integrated operations under a unified structure.

Until now, they have operated under separate editorial leadership. They will now adopt a “newsroom convergence” model aimed at aligning editorial direction, improving coordination, and streamlining content production, Onlinekhabar reported on Friday, April 17.

Chauhan brings around 25 years of experience in journalism across print and broadcast media. He holds a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Purbanchal University and a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Tribhuvan University.

Before leading Kantipur, he served as an editor at Naya Patrika Daily.

In a post on X after assuming the role, Chauhan described the move as the beginning of a new chapter. He said the convergence model would allow the two outlets to share plans, content, and presentation, and stressed the need to adapt to the global shift toward digital platforms and the growing influence of audio-visual journalism.

The announcement comes a day after Kantipur Daily appointed Gokarna Awasthi as its Editor-in-Chief.
